What DNS records do

DNS is the address book of the internet. Your A/AAAA records point your domain at a server; MX records route your email; TXT records carry things like SPF and domain verification; NS records say which nameservers are in charge. When something is misconfigured — a wrong IP, a missing MX, a broken SPF — this is where you see it.

Common questions

What records does this check?

A and AAAA (the IP addresses your domain points to), MX (mail servers), TXT (SPF, verification, and other text records), NS (your authoritative nameservers), and CNAME (aliases). Empty types just mean none are published.

Why don't I see a CNAME on my root domain?

CNAMEs aren't valid on a root/apex domain (e.g. example.com) — only on subdomains (e.g. www.example.com). That's a DNS rule, not a problem with your setup.

My change isn't showing up — why?

DNS changes propagate as each resolver's cached copy expires (the record's TTL). This tool reads live from authoritative nameservers, but downstream resolvers may take minutes to hours to catch up.

Tired of hand-editing DNS? Squish manages your DNS, hosting, and email together — records configured automatically, no copy-pasting.
